  • Base metal (copper) provides excellent electrical and thermal conductivity.
  • Beryllium addition (approx. 1.8–2.0%) enables precipitation hardening – a heat treatment process that forms ultra-fine beryllide particles inside the copper matrix.
  • These particles block dislocation movement, dramatically increasing hardness and strength (up to 1300 MPa tensile strength – comparable to medium-carbon steel).
  • After heat treatment, the alloy retains good conductivity (15–25% IACS) – lower than pure copper, but far higher than any steel of similar strength.
