Case Study: 5052 Marine-Grade Aluminum Sheet Supply for a Middle East Boat Builder
พิมพ์ในวันที่: October 14, 2026
Client Background
A boat builder based in the Middle East designs and produces leisure and utility craft for use in warm, highly saline coastal waters. The company needed a dependable source of marine-grade aluminum sheet that could withstand constant salt-water exposure while meeting their fabrication tolerances.

The Challenge
The builder had been sourcing aluminum sheet from multiple local traders. The results were inconsistent: alloy grades were not always as specified, thickness varied between batches, and the surface finish often required extra rework before welding and painting. Delivery dates slipped frequently, disrupting production schedules.
The Specification
| Requirement | Specification |
|---|---|
| Grade | 5052 (marine-grade, magnesium alloy) |
| Temper | H32 / H34 |
| Thickness | 2.0 mm – 6.0 mm |
| Surface | Mill finish, protective film |
| Key property | High corrosion resistance in salt water |
The Solution
We recommended 5052 over the previously used 3003 sheet. The magnesium content in 5052 gives it markedly better resistance to chlorides and salt spray, which is critical for hulls, decks and superstructures in coastal service. Working from the builder's drawings, we supplied 5052-H32 sheet cut to their required thickness and size, with protective film to prevent surface damage in transit.
The Results
- Consistent grade and thickness — batch-to-batch variation eliminated, reducing rework.
- Improved corrosion performance — parts held up far better in salt-water service.
- Fewer production delays — smoother scheduling on the yard.
- Cleaner surfaces — less prep time before welding and coating.
Delivery and Packing
Sheet was supplied with protective film and edge protection, then palletised and shrink-wrapped for sea freight to reduce transit damage and moisture exposure. Common thicknesses were held in stock to shorten lead time, while custom sizes were cut to the builder's drawings before shipment, so the material arrived ready for fabrication rather than requiring further processing on site.
Why the Client Stayed
Beyond the material itself, the builder valued three things: documented quality with each lot, straightforward communication in English, and stable lead times. For a yard producing on fixed contracts, predictability matters as much as price.
Apply This to Your Project
Sourcing the right marine-grade aluminum is about matching the grade to the environment and holding the specification consistently. If your product is exposed to salt water, specify 5052 (or a higher marine grade) rather than a general-purpose alloy.
