Copper Busbar and 4x8 Copper Sheet Case Study: 25 Tons to a German Switchgear Manufacturer in 12 Days
Издание: October 27, 2026
Project Snapshot
In Q2 2026, Wuxi Sylaith Special Steel Co., Ltd. Expands Copper Plate Output to 1,000 Tons Monthly, Cutting Export Lead Times to 7-15completed a repeat supply project for a switchgear and power distribution manufacturer based in Bavaria, Germany. The customer needed C11000 copper sheets and tin-plated copper busbars that could pass incoming inspection without rework, and they needed them fast enough to keep two assembly lines running.
| Client | Switchgear & low-voltage distribution manufacturer, Bavaria, Germany |
|---|---|
| Industry | Electrical equipment / power distribution |
| Products Supplied | C11000 4x8 copper sheets, 99.9% pure copper busbar (T2 / C11000), tin-plated copper busbar |
| Total Volume | 25 tons (18 tons sheet + 7 tons busbar) |
| Specifications | Thickness 2–10 mm, width up to 1,200 mm, conductivity ≥ 100% IACS, elongation ≥ 25% |
| Standards | EN 13601, ASTM B152, DIN 1787 equivalent, MTC 3.1 supplied |
| Lead Time | 12 days from deposit to FOB Shanghai |
The Challenge
The buyer had two specific pain points from earlier suppliers. First, inconsistent conductivity: two previous shipments failed incoming conductivity testing, which forced them to re-sort the whole batch. Second, schedule risk. Their switchgear projects are quoted with tight delivery windows to German utilities, so a two-week slip on copper raw material becomes a contractual penalty.
They also required mixed packaging: sheets in seaworthy wooden cases, busbars protected by anti-tarnish film, and every bundle labelled with heat number and mill certificate traceability so their quality department could match material to project documentation.
Our Solution
Our technical team quoted on the exact alloy and temper rather than on "copper sheet" generically, which is where most requests go wrong. The delivery was structured in three parts:
- Material matching: C11000 (T2) oxygen-free-grade copper with conductivity verified at ≥ 100% IACS on every coil, and elongation tested at ≥ 25%.
- In-house processing: Shearing to 4x8 ft (1,220 x 2,440 mm) plus custom widths, edge milling and deburring for busbar so parts entered their press brake without extra handling.
- Documentation: MTC 3.1, heat-number traceability, and a pre-shipment inspection report with photos of each bundle.
Because we hold standing inventory of common thicknesses in Wuxi, production only had to cover the non-standard widths. That is what made a 12-day lead time realistic instead of the 30 days the buyer had budgeted for.
Results
| Metric | Before | After This Project |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming conductivity pass rate | ~85% (batch re-sorting needed) | 100% of 25 tons accepted first pass |
| Lead time | 30–35 days | 12 days to FOB Shanghai |
| Assembly rework on busbar | Manual deburring in-house | Zero — parts used as delivered |
| Documentation queries | Repeated, certificates missing | Zero — MTC 3.1 with every bundle |
What Made the Difference
- Test data before shipment, not after complaint. Conductivity, hardness and elongation results were sent with the inspection report so the buyer's QA could approve material remotely.
- Processing at source. Cutting, deburring and tin plating were done before export, removing a secondary operation from the customer's plant.
- Packaging designed for sea freight. Anti-tarnish film plus desiccant inside wooden cases, which matters for a six-week ocean transit to Northern Europe.
Client Feedback
"The material went straight to the line. No sorting, no re-measuring, no follow-up emails for certificates — that is exactly what we need from a copper supplier."
Repeat Order and Scale-Up
The customer placed a second order within ten weeks, this time adding 7 tons of tin-plated busbar in 3 mm and 5 mm thickness for a data-centre distribution project. Monthly supply capacity is currently 1,000+ tons, with 80–90% of our output exported to Europe, North America and Southeast Asia.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you supply both sheet and busbar in one shipment? Yes. Sheet and busbar are produced in the same plant and consolidated into one container to reduce freight cost.
What is the minimum order quantity? 100 kg for standard stock sizes, 1 ton for custom thickness and width.
Which certifications are available? MTC 3.1 as standard, with third-party inspection such as SGS or BV on request.
